The wealth of the Landes inheritance
Ever since its foundation, Groupe Gascogne has contributed to the enhancement of the Landes region's inheritance.
Francis Planté : pianist
Francis Planté was born in Orthez in 1839*. He met Wagner, Liszt, Saint-Saens and Berlioz, and was a great performer of Romantic music. After playing at most of the royal courts of Europe of his time, he retired in 1908 to Mont de Marsan (in the Aquitaine region of France).
In 1989, the Groupe Gascogne purchased a collection of documents, composed of posters, programmes, invitation cards, photographs (including many signed by prominent figures of the period), letters, and above all several scores annotated by the pianist, and transcriptions for piano.
These documents are now in the care of the "Ecomusée de Marquèze", the Local History & Folk Museum in Sabres, (Landes).
* After winning a prize at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris at the age of 11, he had an exceptionally long career, and was still playing when he was 90 years old. |
