SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Gascogne Wood Products: a commited environmental policy

 On forestry

As well as being a historical figurehead in the development of the wood sector in France's Aquitaine region, Gascogne Wood Products has also been a forerunner in forestry certification and traceability of forestry products.
With its traditional attachment and firm commitment to sound, responsible forest management, Gascogne Wood Products naturally subscribes to the PEFC sustainable forest management policy.
Gascogne Wood Products and its subsidiary Forestière de Gascogne encourage forest owners to share this commitment, by having all their forestry operators adopt a code of good practices, and by implementing a meticulous wood supply management system.

All raw materials mobilization and transformation operations at all of the company's seven industrial sites are covered by a PEFC control chain, which makes Gascogne Wood Products a major promoter of certified products.

PEFC: Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes

PEFC, the world's main forest certification system, promotes sustainable forest management practices compatible with the protection of natural resources and with the economic and social welfare of all communities concerned.
Certification covers the whole process, from forest to the wood product, assuring customers that PEFC-certified goods contribute to the prosperity of well-managed forests and to endeavours against climate change.

On industry

Environmental responsibility also extends to the utilization of by-products from sawing and planing operations, which are sold to paper or chipboard industries or burned on-site as a green energy source.

In addition, Gascogne Wood Products uses finishing products with VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions below 2%, so its products already comply with forthcoming standards on air quality.
