Over the years, the Group has implemented a number of
initiatives to promote responsible management in terms of its environmental responsibility.
Clean environmental practices
As part of its commitment to invest actively in clean energies, Gascogne reuses waste timber, employs recycling techniques, generates green energy and controls its emissions notably through reductions in waste, eco-friendly ink management and the installation of filtration units. |

To contribute to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the Wood division uses fossil fuels almost exclusively, while Gascogne Paper prioritises rational use of energy, including deriving over 80% of its energy from biomass*:
*biomass: organic materials (wood, straw, etc.) that can supply energy. It can be burnt to generate heat (chimney, wood-fired boiler, cooking, etc.) or electricity.
A certified raw material
Gascogne has obtained PEFC certification for its forest-wood-paper division:
-
Supporter of the policy of high-quality PEFC sustainable forest management
-
9 industrial sites handled by control chain: Gascogne Wood Products (6 sites), Gascogne Paper (1 site), Gascogne Sack (1 site), Gascogne Laminates (1 site)
-
Enabling Cenpac to use PEFC certification
-
At the beginning of 2009, certification of Gascogne Laminates Switzerland for its self-adhesive laminates for labels

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification - PEFC, is the world's main forestry certification scheme of which the objective is to promote sustainable development practices that are compatible with the protection of natural resources and the economic and social welfare of the populations concerned.
From the forest to wood, the certification assures the end-consumer that the PEFC certified product that he buys contributes to the prosperity of well-managed forests and the fight against global warming. |

Development of ground-breaking green products
The Group is developing more and more environmentally friendly products through the use of solvent-free water-based products, a supply chain of certified raw materials and a reduction in packaging volumes.
Alongside 100% certified natural Kraft paper that is fully biodegradable, Gascogne develops ground-breaking green products (such as printing on paper and plastic with solvent-free inks, technical stretch film to reduce packaging volumes, panelling and flooring with plant-based wax finish) and is moving into timber building materials with a plan to market wood-framed panel walls.
